Birthday parties, new babies, and a tour of Erfurt, Germany

After Christmas we headed to Erfurt, Germany which is a small city where some of Alex’s school friends live. We arrived a few days before New Year’s to go to a 30th birthday/new baby party for one of his good friends, Thomas. The party was a lot of fun but the highlight was the message I got on my phone at the end of the night. My new niece Harper was born! Welcome to the world Harper Jane!

The morning after the party we joined Alex’s friends for a “Bavarian breakfast”. It turned out this meant going to an old monastery that was converted into a beer hall. Breakfast consisted of liters of Weiss beer, German sausages, and pretzels. At first I didn’t think I could stomach it so early in the morning but it turned out that it was delicious! Our host Anne and I decided to head back to the apartment and leave the boys to play cards. I’m glad I left when I did because they stayed in that restaurant all the way through to dinner time just drinking and eating! If I had stayed I would’ve fallen asleep on the table. Steffen also gave us a wonderful tour of Erfurt. It is really a beautiful city and I was liking Germany more and more.
